Hands-on learning opportunities on
e-waste and repair
Sikaru Saathi is a repair and maker-centered education program that promotes accessible, playful, and active learning on e-waste and repair. We aim to educate our community on the importance of reducing e-waste and encourage responsible disposal and recycling practices. This program is a joint initiative between Doko Recyclers and Karkhana Samuha, supported by Eriko Shrestha, a Lang Social Impact Fellow at the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility at Swarthmore College.

Sikaru Saathi offers extra-curricular programs and intensive bootcamps. Through engaging activities and experiments in our program, students can learn how different electronic devices work and how they can be repaired. This helps to foster a deeper understanding of the repair process and encourage students to think critically about the issues surrounding e-waste.

About our Toolkit

Sikaru Saathi Toolkit is a comprehensive resource designed to encourage and help people use repair as a means to tackle e-waste. We want to provide you with the methods, skills, and knowledge to repair your electronic devices before deciding to replace or dispose of them. We also aim to raise awareness about the negative impact of e-waste on our environment.

How to use this Toolkit

This Digital Toolkit is intended for all audiences, whether you're a student, a teacher, a professional, or a stay-at-home parent, we want the resources on this website to empower you to continue learning in a fun way, while reducing the clutter of e-waste in your community.
The Toolkit contains:
  • Blogs and reading resources on e-waste
  • Repair, recycling, and upcycling videos on e-waste

  • Lesson plans for you to lead a training workshop at your school or office or with your friends and family

Introduction to E-Waste

E-waste, or electronic waste, refers to any equipment that runs on electricity or uses a battery as a source that has gotten rid of or reached the end of its useful life. This includes discarded mobile phones, laptops, refrigerators, printers, and chargers.

The Sikaru Saathi Toolkit

It depends on the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If you are able to identify the specific problem, you can start by researching how to fix that particular issue. You may consult the owner's manual for common repair instructions.
