Repair

How can you begin to repair?

It depends on the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If you are able to identify the specific problem, you can start by researching how to fix that particular issue. You may consult the owner's manual for common repairing instructions. There are plenty of YouTube channels and websites like ifixit with tutorials or instructions on dealing with various equipment. If you are not comfortable attempting the repair yourself, you can contact a professional repair service for assistance.

In this Toolkit, we will be focusing on repair as a means of dealing with e-waste.
The repair lessons are designed for individuals interested in repairing or teaching repair skills. These lessons can be carried out independently or be used to conduct group sessions. We have used these lessons ourselves to facilitate our bootcamp Sikaru Saathi.
Many day-to-day appliances can be repaired relatively easily with some basic knowledge and tools. A box with basic tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, utility knife, black tape, measuring tape, and gloves can be handy for repair.
